Owner & CEO

Hey, I'm Aimee. I lead picture day events, train new crew members, head up sales and business development, and all the other things small business owners do.

Outside of picture day shenanigans, you'll find me on a family bike ride along the Ohio & Erie Towpath Trail, dusting art at Gallery 143, or singing obnoxiously around the house while my kids pretend they can't hear me!

Our Story

It all started in with a dirty backpack.

You know how sometimes, upon realizing your kid's backpack could use a run through the washing machine, you're rifling through the mountain of papers and half-eaten PB&J's you found squashed in the bottom of the bag and come across forms you were supposed to sign and send back to school two weeks ago?

Same.

On one such occasion in 2021, I found a mangled picture day pre-order form that hadn't been filled out or even discussed. Picture day had already come and gone, and in the midst of a pretty hefty shame spiral of mom guilt over not buying my daughter's portraits again, I came to the conclusion that I never really wanted to buy school pictures anyways. They're always kinda blah.

It was at that exact moment that my heart and brain joined forces and somehow instantaneously reorganized all the mental puzzle pieces I'd forever been rearranging trying to sort out exactly how I'd make a living as a photographer who didn't like photographing weddings.

I love young children + I'm a great (so I'm told #hairtoss) photographer + I want my work day to end in time to be home for my girls' bus = obviously I should pivot my business and start offering preschool picture day portraits that don't suck.

And here we are, just 3.5 short years later and we're rocking and rolling all over northern Ohio as a team of 5ish people depending on the season!

What can you expect from ColorPop?

I'm glad you asked.

Our Mission

I could spend hours blabbing on about why I think it's important for little kids to feel seen, cherished and celebrated.

(If you'd like to hear the full TED talk, let's get coffee. Tremont in Massillon is the best, and I'll buy the first round.)

In a nutshell, the stories we unpack with our therapists about who we are really, what we're capable of, and whether we're actually worthy of the space we take up - right now as adults - were formed in our subconscious minds when we were tiny.

It's my greatest desire to help young children create belief systems that say "I am worth celebrating & so are my friends", "There's nothing about me that needs to change to be worthy of love", "Showing up as my authentic self is a great idea!", "Our differences make us beautiful." ...

Can you even imagine what a kind of a world we'd be living in if that's the kind of security we all grew up with?

The best I can do to help facilitate that kind of world is to help every child I come in contact with know that they are seen, cherished and celebrated.

That's our mindset when we show up at picture day. Cuz we're on a mission to change the world one portrait at a time.
