About the role of Portrait Assistant
We’re specifically looking for one Cleveland area assistant and one Columbus area assistant.
The Purpose
The Portrait Assistant is a key player in pulling off a successful picture day for the preschools we serve across Ohio. This role has two main purposes:
1) You will help ensure a smooth picture day experience for our client schools by:
managing workflow using our event progress log on the iPad
ensure kids look and feel their best by greeting them by name and making sure everyone has a clean face and shirt before their portrait is taken
keep the day moving on schedule by directing the flow of traffic to/from the portrait area
2) Once you’re comfortable with the picture day workflow, you’ll be trained to lead a team of your own.
Assistants who demonstrate natural leadership skills on location, a deep understanding of our aesthetic, and commitment to incredible customer service will be promoted to Lead Photographer if they’d like to grow in the field.
The Schedule
We work seasonally in the fall and spring. Fall season runs from the second week of September to the beginning of November. Spring season runs from the first of March through early May.
Each team works 2-3 days per week Tuesday-Friday with the majority of shoots happening Tuesday-Thursdays.
Each picture day schedule is different based on the needs of our schools, but you can expect to begin working between 7:00-8:00 am and finish by lunch time.
The Expectation
Because we are a small (and growing) team, it is vitally important that we can trust each team member to arrive on time, stay focused on the work through the entire portrait event, and maintain a calm, positive attitude - even when the toddlers and toddlering all over the place!
Professional conduct is a non-negotiable. Because we’re working with children, it’s crucial that everyone representing ColorPop Portraits behaves and presents themselves in a way that assures our clients that their students’ safety and comfort is our top priority.
The Pay
Portrait Assistants are paid $16/hr. and are eligible for travel reimbursement.
Assistants who perform well and choose to return season after season will be eligible for a returning bonus.
After promotion to lead photographer, base pay increases to $19/hr and commission is earned on portrait sales.

This job is a great fit for a creative individual who loves rocking the gig life and is looking for some seasonal stability. You’ll earn some extra income before the holidays and summer break, and still have time for your other gigs.
It could also be a perfect for a SAHM of school-age kids looking for fulfilling part-time work, because you’ll be home before the bus and you won’t work on weekends!
